How to nominate

To be eligible for selection onto the 2023 WA  Additional National Levels Team (Border Challenge Team), you must do the following:

• Download and read the 2023 Gymnastics WA State Team Procedure (available below)
• Download and read the 2023 Border Challenge Bulletin #1 (available below)
• Complete the online nomination form, prior to the due date. Nomination links are available below (WAG NL 8 & 9 athletes only need to nominate online if they HAVE NOT also nominated for the Australian Championships State Team).
• Reserve athletes on the Australian Championships State Team will be automatic selections onto this Additional National Levels Team should they wish to be selected. 

Key Nomination Dates 2023

• Nominations OPEN - week of January 23 (Athletes, Coaches, Judges & Team Management)
• Nominations CLOSE - 5.00pm April 5, 2023

Key Selection Dates 2023

• Selection Meetings for Athletes, Coaches, Judges & Team Management are scheduled for the week of May 1, 2023. Nominees are not required to attend these meetings. 
• The WA Border Challenge Team will be announced once the selected team has been ratified by the Gymnastics WA CEO and the appeal window has closed and any submitted appeals have been resolved. 

Team Uniform

The 2023 WA Border Challenge Team uniform will be the same uniform as the team wore in 2022 inclusive of tracksuit, female and male leotards.

2023 is the final year of this uniform as Adidas will cease manufacturing this style of uniform from April 2023. Due to this, some sizes may be unavailable at the time of ordering therefore, an alternative size will be provided. 

Where applicable, compulsory uniform items will be provided to all coaches and management staff by Gymnastics WA. Optional items can be ordered by coaches and management staff at the cost to the individual. 

In 2023, if a selected coach already has the compulsory uniform items from a team in 2022, Gymnastics WA will provide one additional polo rather than a full tracksuit.

Ordering Process
After the Team is selected, successful athletes will order their uniform online, directly from the supplier, Pro Sportswear. Uniforms will then be delivered via Australia Post directly to athletes from the supplier. It is not compulsory that athletes order new uniform if they were on the 2022 Team. 

Successful coaches and management staff will order their compulsory uniform items directly with Gymnastics WA. Uniforms will then be collected from Gymnastics WA at an appropriate time (i.e. Team training). For optional items, coaches and management staff will order directly with the supplier, Pro Sportswear. Items will them be delivered directly to the individual via Australia Post. 

Try-On Sessions
To help facilitate athletes ordering the correct sizes, Gymnastics WA will host a number of uniform try-on sessions in the lead up to nominations closing. It is not compulsory that athletes who already have uniform attend a session.

Anyone nominating for a position on a WA Team is required to acknowledge that they have read and understand this Procedure.

The Border Challenge Team Bulletins contain all relevant travel and Border Challenge event information for Team nominees & members. Bulletin #1 can be found below and is applicable to all gymsports containing information on how to nominate for the Team and important Team dates. 

Bulletin #2 is more specific and is for selected Team members. it will be released shortly after the selection of the Team.

Coaching Structure & Selection

Coaches will be considered for a position on the WA Border Challenge Team if they meet the eligibility (section 5) and selection criteria (section 9) outlined in the 2023 State Team Procedure, and has participated in Professional Development Workshop/s within the past 12 months.

Coaching positions available on the Team include:

• Head Coach
• Team Coach
• Assistant Coach
• Personal Coach

Not all indicated positions may be selected. The number of available positions on each Team will be determined with consideration to the Team composition.

Personal Coaches may not be selected. The necessity for Personal Coaches will be determined in consultation with the Head Coach and Selection Committee and relative to the Team size, structure and Team needs.

Management Structure & Selection

Management will be considered for a position on the WA Border Challenge Team if they meet the eligibility (section 5) outlined in the 2023 State Team Procedure. Considerations outlined in section 11 of the State Team Procedure will also be taken into account when selecting an individual for a management position. 

Management positions available on the Team include:

• MAG Team Manager
• WAG Team Manager
• Dual Team Manager / Team Coach

Not all indicated positions may be selected. The number of available positions on each Team will be determined with consideration to the Team composition. If a dual Team Manager / Team Coach is selected, no sole Team Manager will be selected for either WAG or MAG. 
 

Judging Structure & Selection

Judges will be considered for a position on the WA Border Challenge Team if they meet the eligibility (section 5) and selection criteria (section 10) outlined in the 2023 State Team Procedure.

Judging positions available on the Team include:

• MAG Judge
• WAG Judge

Not all indicated positions may be selected. The number of available positions on each Team will be determined with consideration to the Team composition.
 

• The applicable Funding Request Form and all Tax Invoices / Receipts (if required) must be submitted to Gymnastics WA in order to receive reimbursement of the funding money. 
• Funding applications will be submitted to the Gymsport Technical Working Groups for approval. 
• Applications for reimbursement must occur within 30 days of returning from the event / date of invoice.
