The Go for 2&5 WA Gymnastics Championships was held on the 30th April and 1st May for all six competitive gymsports. The majority of the event was held at the State Gymnastics Centre, with the Trampoline Gymnastics events being run at High Flyers Trampoline & Gymnastics Academy. Over a very busy two days, new WA Champions were decided, with many athletes using the event as a major stepping stone towards the Australian Gymnastics Championships that are being held on the Gold Coast later this month.
The event saw over 320 athletes from 17 different metropolitan athletes competing, despite the lead-up to the event being hampered by the spread of COVID-19 throughout Perth over the past few weeks. With restrictions being lifted just prior to the event, we were fortunate to be able to extend spectator ticket sales for each session, enabling clubs and athletes to bring an increased number of people to watch the event, creating a lively atmosphere compared to the quieter qualification competition season. Spectators throughout the event were entertained with some excellent athletic performances and displays of sportsmanship, as well as spectator engagement games and giveaways thanks to our sponsors Healthway and prizes from GKD Gymnastics & Dance. There were plenty of Instagram stories, videos and photos shared during the event, keeping the action alive for those following along at home.
The Go for 2&5 WA Gymnastics Championships also gave Gymnastics WA the opportunity to acknowledge the athlete members of the 2022 WA State Team, with all athletes being presented their State Team T-Shirt during the event. Gymnastics WA would like to wish our entire team the best of luck at the upcoming Australian Championships.
A major event of this size wouldn’t be possible without the support of our staff, sponsors, members and clubs so thank you to everyone who contributed to an action-packed two days. Your hard work and dedication to events such as this is greatly appreciated and we look forward to building and improving on the event in the years to come.
