Gymnastics WA Athlete Camp - Wrap Up Article
In January 2020, the inaugural Gymnastics WA Athlete Camp launched the year with the aim to inspire and motivate our Women’s Artistic Gymnastics athletes and coaches.
The 3 day development camp took place over the 9th – 11th January at HBF Stadium with Master Coaches Peggy Liddick, Peter Abbot, Stacey Umeh, Leah Gay, Emily Little, Brenton Treacher, Katherine Rogers, Alicia Hayes, Joshua Fabian and Nikolai Lapchine.
The camp consisted of the following:
- Apparatus Skill Development
- Dance & Artistry
- Strength & Conditioning
- Coach Professional Development Workshop
A total of 84 athletes from Level 2 – Senior International attended the camp representing eighteen Gymnastics Australia Affiliated Clubs and the Gymnastics WA High Performance Program. We were incredibly pleased to see 8 of our regional based clubs ranging from Esperance to Karratha attend the camp, along with 3 Interstate clubs.
One of the exciting camp opportunities allowed athletes gain signatures and photos with not only Camp Master Coach but also 2012 London Olympic Games representative Emily Little.
This camp was the first to be conducted in WA and was a great success receiving positive feedback from coaches, athletes and parents.
At the conclusion of the camp, lead master coach Peggy Liddick selected 5 athletes to be awarded as our “High achiever” Athletes.
We would like to further recognise and congratulate the following athletes for this achievement:
We would also like to thank all of our master coaches and camp volunteers for all of their assistance over the three days, we could not have done it without you.
Overall the camp ran very successfully and we look forward to delivering more in the future.
