2021 Telethon Family Festival Fun

On Sunday October 17, 24,000 people descended on Optus Stadium in Perth for the 2021 Telethon Family Festival, for what would be a record breaking weekend not just in attendance alone, but with a huge 62.1 million dollars raised to support 65 Western Australian charities in their endeavours to research for and support sick children in Western Australia.

In near perfect weather conditions, Gymnastics WA were onsite with two Gym Warriors circuits for attendees to test their warrior skills with a variety of obstacles and challenges.  Close to 2500 children came through the circuits over the 6 hour period with lots of happy smiles and fun had by all.  With our Gym Warriors being out and about in the wider community, this was an awesome opportunity to grow and develop an understanding of gymnastics at the grass roots, fundamental level and provide a pathway to clubs for those willing to further participate in this exciting program.

As the only provider of an activity for attendees to interact actively with, our site was buzzing all day long!  As one parent said “it’s fantastic to see something active for the kids to try and the bright colours look great”!  Gymnastics WA are thankful for the support of Healthway through their Go for 2&5 initiative, which enable us to provide this style of community activation and further embed the value of an active and healthy lifestyle into young Western Australians whilst allowing a wider cross section of the community to experience gymnastics at an introductory level.

Coaches in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the experience with one coach describing it as a “fabulous day working a Telethon with fantabulous people!”
