The RAC SportWest Awards 2020, held on Thursday 11 March, is a celebration of sport and the integral role sport plays in connecting WA communities across our state. It’s never been more evident than through the challenges over the last 12 months.
The year has presented unprecedented challenges to communities across Western Australia, across the country and around the world. Sport has also been impacted by the spread of COVID-19 with sport at various levels impacted by the global pandemic resulting in a number of events being cancelled or postponed, headlined by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Gymnastics WA community were recognised as finalists in two categories; High Flyers Trampoline & Gymnastics Academy in the RAC Insurance Community Club of the Year and Michelle McMurdo in the Community TAB Official of the Year. This is a significant achievement for both Michelle and High Flyers and one that the community should be very proud of.
The evening only got better for the gymnastics community with High Flyers taking out the Community Club of the Year category in front of a loud and excited sports crowd. High Flyers is not only the first gymnastics club but also the first business to receive this award. An incredible achievement for the club, especially to the very well-deserved club owners, Emma and Tony Burton. Their dedication and love for the sport of gymnastics is truly reflected through their passionate club members and staff.
