What an eventful gymnastics filled weekend that just has passed, and that was just the week one! We had athletes from Acrobatic, Aerobic, Women’s Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics on display, showcasing some spectacular performances.
Week One of the Go for 2&5 Western Australian Junior Gymnastics Championships was held across two venues, being the State Gymnastics Centre here in Leederville and Trampoline Gymnastics competing at the Lords Recreation Centre in Subiaco. Both venues were covered in Yellow, Gold and White
Competition kicked off on Thursday evening at the State Gymnastics Centre with Acrobatic Gymnastics on display from Levels 3 and 4. The crowd cheered on the athletes, watching every amazing skill from their seats. The large grins on the faces of the athletes just highlighted what a fun time they were having.
The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) sessions began on Friday evening, leading off with our first group of National Level 3’s. The weekend was jam-packed with WAG sessions, with over 300 athletes competing across National Levels 3 – 6.
Trampoline Gymnastics kicked off on Saturday through to Sunday over at the Lords Recreation Centre with athletes competing in Tumbling, Double-Mini Trampoline and Trampoline. Gymnastics WA would like to recognise the time and support by Peak Trampoline in regards to the setup of this venue.
To wrap up the weekend, the Aerobic athletes hit the floor on Sunday afternoon with some smashing routines. Athletes from Levels 3 – 5 as well as Aerodance looked to take out the title of State Champions.
Photographers from Sports Imagery Australia were present at every session, taking incredible photos throughout the competition. Make sure to check out the snaps at www.sportsimagery.com.au. There are some fantastic deals available for Gymnastics WA members, perfect for gifts (especially with Christmas coming up). Photographers will again be present at all sessions, this weekend so look out for their display table in Hall 1.
Throughout the weekend, the atmosphere within both venues were great with lots of activities and giveaways happening. Hall 2 was turned into a children’s play area, allowing for children to battle their friends in some giant games such as Jenga and Snakes & Ladders. GKD Gymnastics and Dance were also selling their popular selection of leotards. We had a Go for 2&5 Activity Sheet for children to complete, with all entries going into a draw to receive a $100 Dinner Twist voucher as well as a bunch of spectator engagement activities including the Go for 2&5 giveaways linked with fruit and vege questions, t-shirt slingshots and handstand competitions. We also have a door prize to hand out to one lucky winner who purchased their ticket through trybooking, where a gift voucher for GK Elite is up for grabs.
To wrap up the first week of the Go for 2&5 WA Junior Gymnastics Championships, we would like to congratulate all our athletes for their hard work and resilience and we would also like to thank all our judges and volunteers who have contributed their time selflessly towards the events, both behind the scenes, in the lead up and on the competition floor at the event. An enormous thank you to you all and we look forward to next week!!
Gymnastics WA would also like to thank our major sponsors - Healthway (Go for 2&5) and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. We would also like to acknowledge City of Vincent and Belgravia Leisure for their support towards our State Gymnastics Centre.
