What an eventful gymnastics filled weekend that just has passed, where our Senior WA athletes gave some outstanding performances.
We had six participating gymsports held across two venues which included Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Aerobics and Acrobatic Gymnastics were all held at the State Gymnastics Centre here in Leederville and we had Trampoline Gymnastics competing at the Lords Recreation Centre in Subiaco.
On Friday evening on the 4th May, we had the State Gymnastics Centre filled with spectators supporting our top level athletes in WA for Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and Rhythmic Gymnastics competing at the premiere session of the Go for 2&5 WA Gymnastics Championships. The buzzing crowd cheered on our senior athletes with our Gym Squad clappers which were handed out by one of our Gym Squad members, Aiden!
In Men’s Gymnastics we saw Jake Thompson in Senior International from High Flyers Trampoline & Gymnastics Club, take home the winning gold in Floor, Pommel, Vault and High Bar. Grace Barry (NCE/ Spirit Gymsports) in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics took home the overall State Champion for the Junior International level with Clara Kolm (NCE/ College Park) coming a close second and Sidney Stephens (NCE/ Spirit Gymsports) was not far off, taking the overall bronze.
In Hall 2, we had Rhythmic Gymnastics with our Level 10, Junior and Senior International athletes competing. In the Senior International Level, Kosara Yovcheva finished the competition with taking gold for all apparatus and also the trophy for the all around.
Our Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy athlete, Giorgia Chin, has been working hard year after year and we also saw her take home the overall gold at this year’s championships competing in the Junior International level.
Trampoline Gymnastics kicked off on Saturday through to Sunday over at the Lords Recreation Centre with Eva Kierath taking the title of the Senior Female State Champion for Trampoline Gymnastics and Jack Petrie taking home the trophy for the Senior Male Trampoline State Champion.
Throughout the weekend, the atmosphere within both venues were great with lots of activities and giveaways happening. We had Aiden handing out the Foodbank recipe cards that is part of a home cooking competition, where over 150 Gym Squad aprons can be won. Alongside this competition, we had a leotard design competition where a gift voucher for GK Elite is up for grabs and also a door prize linked to the purchase of an event program to win an exclusive Gymnastics WA hamper.
To wrap up the Go for 2&5 WA Gymnastics Championships, we would like to congratulate all our athletes for their hard work and resilience and we would also like to thank all our judges and volunteers who have contributed their time selflessly towards the events, both behind the scenes, in the lead up and on the competition floor at the event. An enormous thank you to you all.
